Tokyo confirmed 7,395 fresh cases of COVID-19 on April 2, down a fraction from the 7,440 of the previous Saturday.
Four deaths were linked to COVID-19, metropolitan government officials said.
The daily average of new cases for the week ending April 2 came to 7,622.4, a 21.5-percent increase over the average of the previous week. April 2 marked the fifth straight day for the daily average to top the figure of the previous week.
The largest age group in the latest cases were patients in their 20s. They numbered 1,587.
