Tokyo posted 30 new deaths from COVID-19 on Feb. 21, the highest single-day figure recorded during the current sixth wave of infections that started in January.

The capital reported 8,805 new COVID-19 cases on the same day, down 1,529 from a week ago. It marked the first time the daily count dipped below 10,000 since Jan. 24.

Of the 8,805 cases, 263 patients were diagnosed with COVID-19 by doctors without testing.
