Tokyo confirmed 20 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Dec. 5, 11 more than a week ago, but no related fatalities.
The seven-day average of new cases over the week through Dec. 5 came to 16.3, a rise of 15.6 percent over the figure for the preceding week, metropolitan government officials said.
The number of serious cases based on the metropolitan government’s definition--patients requiring ventilators or an ECMO heart-lung bypass machine--remained unchanged at two from the previous day.
