SASEBO, Nagasaki Prefecture--For the first time in 11 years, a new attraction area is opening at the local Huis Ten Bosch theme park and it promises to brighten visitors’ spirits with its imaginative displays.

Fantasia City of Lights consists of seven indoor areas that use the latest technology in digital lighting and projection mapping to create immersive, interactive experiences for visitors. It officially opened at the park on March 20.

"It is an experience-based facility where visitors of all ages can get a thrill," said Katsuhiko Sakaguchi, president of Huis Ten Bosch Co., which runs the theme park.

The park fully renovated the old Thriller City attraction to create the new area. It was initially scheduled to open in March last year, but its debut was delayed by a year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The space is divided into seven areas, each with its own theme, including space, sea, forest and sound. Each section is characterized by its interactive visual effects. In one area, brilliant swirls of light and vibrant jellyfish appear on the walls when visitors move their hands close to it.

Flowers bloom over surfaces when a visitor places a glass on the table in the Forest Fantasia Cafe section, while a massive dance organ plays in synch with a projection-mapping show to present a love story between a man and a woman in the Art Fantasia section.

In the Playground Fantasia section, visitors move around while playing with lights.
