Tokyo confirmed 203 new COVID-19 cases on Oct. 9, the second consecutive day the daily count topped 200, according to metropolitan government officials.
The capital reported 248 new novel coronavirus infections the day before.
Of the 203 new cases, 60 patients, the highest number, were in their 20s, followed by 43 in their 30s, 28 in their 50s and 26 in their 40s. Twenty people aged 65 or older also tested positive.
The metropolitan government said the number of serious cases requiring ventilators or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, also known as an ECMO lung bypass machine, dropped by one from the previous day to 21 on Oct. 9.
