The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 226 fresh cases of COVID-19 infection on Sept. 12, with a majority of patients aged between 20 and 49.
Although the daily figure dipped under 200 on Sept. 11, it again exceeded that number for the first time in two days.
Twenty-three patients on Sept. 12 were classified as having severe symptoms that require the use of a ventilator or an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) device, which circulates blood through an artificial lung, a decrease of one from the previous day.
