Tokyo registered 170 new COVID-19 patients on Sept. 8, with the daily count bouncing back into the triple digits, according to the latest figures provided by metropolitan officials.
The number of new cases announced on Sept. 7 was 77, the first time in two weeks the count fell below 100.
Of the latest count, 45 patients are in their 30s, 41 in their 20s, 32 in their 40s, 18 in their 50s, eight in their 60s, 15 in their 70s or older and 11 are under 20.
The number of serious cases was 21 on Sept. 8, down slightly from 24 the day before. The metropolitan government defines serious cases as patients on a ventilator or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) lung bypass machine.
