Tokyo entered its 12th straight day on July 20 of posting new coronavirus cases in the triple digits, although the latest number is showing a slight decline.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike told reporters that 168 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the metropolitan government’s daily count on July 20.
Just a day before, the daily number fell below 200 for the first time in four days, when 188 new cases were confirmed.
On July 16, Tokyo confirmed 286 new cases, followed by 293 and 290 in the next two days.
The metropolitan government raised its alert level on July 15 for the novel coronavirus pandemic to the highest of four levels, following a sharp increase in new infections.
