The designer of the Tokyo Olympic torch has released instructions on the internet on how to easily create a face shield to protect against novel coronavirus infections.
Tokujin Yoshioka, 53, made his face shield pattern available on Tokyo-based Tokujin Yoshioka Inc.’s website (https://www.tokujin.com/news/?l=en) as well as through his Twitter and Instagram accounts.
The video shows users how to print out the pattern, place it on a plastic sheet, and cut out the design with scissors. A utility knife should be used to cut two small, long ellipses on the pattern.
The temples of eyeglasses are inserted through the holes. The transparent guard provides protection for the entire face.
“I am grateful to the brave and dedicated health care workers for fighting the contagious disease,” Yoshioka said in a statement. “I’d like to share my quick and simple face shield idea for emergency situations in light of the shortage of medical supplies. I hope this can be of help to health care workers.”
The renowned designer, who hails from Saga, was expected to run around his hometown for the Olympic torch relay. But the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics have been postponed until summer next year because of the pandemic.
