Nearly 100 new novel coronavirus infections were confirmed in Tokyo on April 2, the largest number for a single day in the capital so far in the epidemic.
By the Tokyo metropolitan government, 97 people tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of cases to 684.
Of the 97 new cases in the capital, 20 patients were in their 40s, 19 were in their 20s, 15 were in their 30s and two were under the age of 10.
At least 35 of the new cases involved people connected to Eiju General Hospital in Taito Ward or Keio University Hospital in Shinjuku Ward, the sources said.
